No - you can access their services at any time. The ?college list? they provide is only available beginning February of junior year, but you can schedule calls at any point before then.

Yes. We just had our first meeting. You can use them for the whole suite of services or just for list building or only for financial services (FAFSA, merit) or just for essays. They offer phone meetings for about 45 minutes. It felt strange to have no video but otherwise it was a good meeting. I'm feeling less stressed now. I liked that the counselor was direct with DS.
For focused questions you can email as well.
Some drawbacks: they have limited hours M-F 7 am - 5 pm. We had to wait for almost a month to schedule our first meeting. Finding a time that meshes with DS's school schedule, now that school is in session, is hard. We're doing a parent only meeting next time. I anticipate that it will be harder to schedule during busier times of the school year. Anyone have tips to problem solve around that?
2)We meet with a different counselor each time. The counselor will leave notes for the next counselor to help with continuity. I'm hoping this will not be a huge disadvantage.
Thanks for the info daisyd. If you feel like sharing how it goes later on, I would really appreciate it.
I?m trying to assess the different services right now and decide if hiring someone is even worth it.
You're welcome. I'm happy to update. We're also trying to figure out if we should go with Bright Horizons given the difficulty with scheduling and having a different counselor each time. Also, it is very much a process driven by the family/student. I'm thinking it will be okay if I continue to read extensively and stay on top of deadlines.
