Default Vegas with my crowd weary kiddo

DS and I will have 1 day/ 1 night in Vegas next month. I'm just now looking at where to stay and whether there's something that he would enjoy in the area. He generally doesn't like loud spaces or crowds so it doesn't seem like his jam, but wondering if anyone here has suggestions of things not to miss (or things to avoid). I haven't been to Vegas since way before having kids.

It is crowded getting there b/c you walk down the strip and through a little mall area and iirc there's even a zip line up above you, general LV mayhem, but DS and I had a great time last year riding the High Roller ferris wheel once we got there. You do have to share your 'pod' with other people, but I don't think it's more than 6 or so total in the pod, the group we shared with kept to themselves except to offer to take some photos. I suppose you could end up with a rowdy group, but maybe they'd let you decline that one for another. Once you get up above it all it's really cool and feels like an escape, and I remember it being peaceful, relative to what's happen on the ground below you. And you're above the sphere which is fun.

DS wanted to try some fried chicken place and go to the M&M store nearby, we were there 2 days before Xmas and it was utter mayhem/time square overload down there in that part of the strip. He also really wanted to go to Omega Mart but I wasn't sure it was going to hold his interest enough to buy tickets and it was pretty in demand. I don't know how crowded it is over there.

The best tip is to get out and do stuff in the morning. It's generally quiet and nice in the AM.

We usually stay at Vdara because there is no casino in there and it is centrally located. However, much of what we prefer to do is up in the Venetian area so we might shift that way. Like our favorite brunch spot https://www.thomaskeller.com/bouchonlasvegas

I would make an effort to just look at "must do" lists and make a checklist. I'd put the High Roller, Bellagio fountains, Bellagio lobby (Chihuly ceiling is beautiful), Bellagio art gallery (if they like art), mall at Caesars, Venetian with the gondola (never ridden one but could be fun), a show like a Cirque or Le Reve, https://www.wynnlasvegas.com/enterta...lake-of-dreams , ride the coaster at NYNY or just stop in for some pizza or something from Eataly. Plenty to do off the Strip too. You could do the AM/lunch on the Strip then head out to hike or something.

Way down at Mandalay Bay, we had a calm, great night of live music at the House of Blues B Side once. It's a small, calm space.

If he's not a fan of crowds I'd probably skip the strip completely. We stayed at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa after DS2's volleyball tournament 2 years ago. We enjoyed the pool and ate well at the 888 Japanese BBQ restaurant. We also enjoyed the Guided Dam Tour at the Hoover Dam.

If he likes nature and you will have a rental car then look at outlying areas like Summerlin. We have stayed at the JW Marriott and it is very nice and close to Red Rock National Park. You can see the strip which is nice at night but it is the suburbs. We also did the Aquarium and it was nice. We also spent a lot of time at the pool (as it was summer).

ETA: if your kid likes sports and is okay with crowds at that type of event I would check out a Vegas Golden Knights game. The tickets aren?t cheap but I have heard from even non die hard hockey fans it is a great experience.

We had an inkling we wouldn’t like the strip so our plans were to stay away from it. We drove through to see everything and had dinner at one of the hotels. We had a wonderful morning at Valley of Fire State Park. We also enjoyed Hoover Dam. We didn’t get to visit but also on our list were the Neon Museum and the Pinball museum. I would add a cirque show if he would enjoy that. We visited the Vegas sign very early in the morning just before the tour busses arrived. One tour bus driver was laughing at us because we ran to the sign when we saw them pulling in to the parking lot.

We really enjoyed the Postcards From Earth show at the Sphere. You go in early and interact with the AI robots, then watch the show. it's short, but very immersive - both of my teens liked it a lot.
