    Default Ugh, this school year.

I just got an email that DS2's second grade teacher is changing TOMORROW, Friday, as approved by the school board. His teacher is becoming the reading intervention teacher and his new teacher will be a brand new teacher who just finished student teaching in the building last semester.
UGH. I am so annoyed. I love/loved DS2's teacher. And I don't blame her for taking the newly opened position. And I get that it's a specialized position, etc. But seriously?! They couldn't fill it with subs for the remainder of the year? (Hell, make the student teacher a longterm sub for the position) and leave the regular classroom teacher for one more freaking semester? So now we've moved these kids to a brand new school during a pandemic, they didn't even have a playground until late October because it wasn't finished being built yet, my 4th grader's teacher and class had to move classrooms in November because their hallway hadn't been finished yet when school started, so it's been chaotic anyway. Not to mention they started with hybrid schedule before going fully in person. I am really grateful that they are in person but UGH.

DS2 is already emotional tonight so I'll let him find out from them tomorrow. (I mean the email just came through at 9pm tonight.)

    I completely feel for you.

My 3rd grade is being forced to change into a play based learning module next year because they are moving the whole school this direction. Why they couldn't do this gradually over a couple of years and let these older kids age out, who knows.

But hey, we are in the middle of a pandemic, let's just keep changing crap, cause who needs consistency.

I'm sorry! That's a lot. I hope he takes it as best as he can. Hopefully it turns out to be a good rest of the year!

    Ugh, I'm sorry - I feel you.
DD's schedule changed again this week and she has already cried 3 times simply from feeling overwhelmed from all the changes. This year is hard enough on kids without throwing them curve balls.

My sons teacher did not come back from winter break. It was a good decision as she was not happy, but he’s had 3 subs so far and doesn’t do well with changes. You have my sympathy.

I continue to be stunned by some of the reports I get from friends, IRL and online, about how their kids' schools are managing staff issues.

Oh my goodness, I am sorry! Not the same but DS1's teacher was quarantined for 2 weeks I think in Oct., he had a different sub every single day and often times not real subs but whoever they could get (asst principals, etc.) I hope your son's teacher is replaced soon!

I just realized this is the BP forum, so feel free to ignore my response.

I'm sorry. I'm sure to be a reading intervention teacher she needed some extra training and experience that a brand new teacher would not yet have which is why they took her and not the new teacher.

On the other side of this, I took over a class the first week of November when the current teacher decided distance learning was not working for her, and she retired with a minimal amount of notice. The class had a couple of subs while the school hired for the position. I was so nervous about how I would be received. Thankfully the kids and parents kept an open mind, and it has worked out great.

So sorry this happened to you! On the bright side, at least it is one consistent teacher and not a stopgap of various subs/whomever they could get. We've seen all kinds of people sub in, from specialist teachers to principal to even front office staff!

My DS's math teacher had a baby late November, so they had a long-term sub already set up before school started. I spoke with this teacher (for a different reason) and she mentioned that subs are so hard to find, she's going to get five times her usual rate to sub in the neighboring district once she got done with the long-term maternity leave coverage. Five times!
