Default Can we make a list of favorite books for older toddlers?

Hi everyone. DD is getting to where she likes reading longer, non-boardbook type things more and more. So far I haven't bought too many mostly because they're SO expensive. And when I go to the library, sometimes it's hard to know where to start. So many of the early reader books are SO boring with the way they say the same sentence over and over but just add one word. And I have a limited amount of time to browse on my own because dd will have every shelf destroyed if I'm not careful!
So, I'm looking for some recs. We still read our boardbooks a lot, and she loves the hungry little caterpillar and the poky little puppy (over and over and over). So, what are your dc's favorites?

Cars and Trucks and Things that Go - Richard Scarry

Knuffle Bunny - A Cautionary Tale (don't know the author off hand)

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - (again, not sure of author)

We love the Olivia books by Ian Falconer. She started loving them at 18 months, but they will have staying power.

    Our current favorites are:

    I Love You, Stinky-Face
Tea for One, Tea for Two (she's been reciting this one by heart for months and she still LOVES it!)
    Green Eggs & Ham
    Rattletrap Car
    The Family Book
One Dad Two Dads Brown Dad Blue Dads
    My Truck is Stuck
    Chugga Chugga Choo Choo

    Staples include:

    The Care Bears anything
    Clifford anything
Biscuit anything (which drives us nuts for the reasons you mention, but she likes them..)

A few that DS has been reading lately..

If you Give a Pig a Pancake
    The Napping House
    The Ugly Truckling
    Wake up Kisses
    Where do Balloons Go?
    Is your Mama a Llama?
    Owen
    My Many Colored Days

You need to look in the "Picture Book" section, not the early readers. Books that are good for early readers are not good read aloud books. Pick up a copy of The Read Aloud Handbook while you are there and browse through the treasury section in the back - you will get a good idea of what books to look for. Also, don't be afraid to ask the librarian for help - that is what they are there for.

    Colwyn's current two favorites are:

Goodnight, Monkey Boy (forget the author)
Click, Clack, Moo (again, I forget the author)

We still read mostly board books, because I hate to see books get destroyed and Lachlann is very much in his paper-tearing phase.

Don't forget the How Do Dinosaurs books by Jane Yolen. DS LOVES these and they are fun for parents to read too.
